What You Need to Know about Microsoft Price Increases

Microsoft is a pioneer on the business tools frontier and is always looking for ways to meet the evolving needs of your business. In the last four years alone, the company has launched Microsoft 365, with 24 new apps like Teams, Planner, OneDrive and over 1 400 features and capabilities, including hundreds of improvements to PowerPoint, Outlook, Word and SharePoint, while keeping your business safe with Enterprise Mobility and Security (EMS).

Many of these tools are now integral to running your business, and MS wants to help you customise a licensing solution that can support your digital transformation in the long term.

When will the increase take effect?

Microsoft, which hasn't had a significant price increase in a decade, has recently launched a new licensing model called New Commerce Experience (NCE), which will affect Office 365, Microsoft 365, Windows 365, Dynamics 365 and Power Platform users. Schools and private users will not be affected by this particular increase.

As of 1 March 2022, users will need to consider how they want to manage their subscriptions by selecting month-to-month, annual or 3-year contracts for each product.

Monthly contracts, which attract the most expensive 20% price increase, will give businesses the option to add or remove users every month as operational requirements change. However, when combined with a longer-term licensing contract and all the discounts that come with it, it is a way for a business to strategically balance out costs while still having access to all the benefits Microsoft has to offer.

The good news

While price increases are never welcome, Microsoft continues to add new tools and functionality to help further improve business processes, collaboration and security.

The idea behind this new licensing model is to:

● Simplify the licencing process
● Offer cost savings for long-term users
● Give you the flexibility to customise a licensing solution for your business
● Encourage digital transformation
